Botox has been used for its aesthetic properties since the 1980s

Originally, Botox has been used as a muscle relaxer for lazy eyes and twitching.

Recently, however, it’s been used to relax muscles in the facial area to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Generally, middle aged men and women that have not had any significant sun damage are ideal candidates for the procedure. Wrinkles are easily treated with Botox injections and this effect can last for months.Botox Injections

Moreover, even after the effects have died off, the look of wrinkles is better comparatively to its look before the injection. The most common wrinkles to be treated are forehead lines, lines between the brows, fine lines, crow’s feet, and neck wrinkles.

Botox injections can be done virtually anywhere - even at beauty fairs. Prior to the injection, the skin is cleared of all make up and dirt. A small quantity of Botox is injected in the desired muscles.

The Botox substance attaches itself to the nerve endings in the muscle. It helps with blocking the release of some chemicals and this process slows down the signals arriving at the muscle. The muscle is paralyzed and is weakened, and thus relaxed. This effect lasts for a few months. There is no special care after the injections.

The most common complications of Botox injections are bruising, tenderness and bleeding. However, these usually go away in a few days. More sever risks can occur when Botox is injected near the eyes, such as eyelid dropping, dry eyes and double vision.

Botox costs about $10 per unit. The injections cost about $200 for each area. For example, crow’s feet injections cost about $200 and forehead injections cost about $150.

Do not use medication like aspirin for a day or two before and after the injections since this promotes bruising.
